Gelati Brothers is a group of musicians first formed in 2001. The original three members are still rocking having only seen a change of drummer.
Ken McPhail, Phil Timms and Peter Keene got together to provide music for a New Years Eve activity at Coffs Harbour Beach Mission. The music was well received and the three felt that perhaps they could do a bit more of this stuff and so decided to let it be known to friends and colleagues that they were open for business.
Over the past eight years they have played at more Beach Missions, and for many 18th, 21st, 40th, 50th, 60th birthdays and engagement parties. The original drummer Sandy Lane could not continue and that role has been taken over by Mick Hellstrom. The sound system has always been run by Barb McPhail. A large portion of their gigs have been to raise money for a variety of organizations. These have included the Christian Studies teachers at local high schools; for people who have gone into the mission field, including Ian and Ruth Batey and Morgan and Anna Powell; for David and Ann Hewetson and African Enterprises and for paraolympians at the Beijing Olympics.
They excel in providing music from the 60s and 70s but that does not stop them from entertaining in any genre. With the addition of some fiddlers and a caller they have now become well known for the bush dances they organize. These have been at St Matts but also at local schools and near-by churches.
Gelati Brothers will provide entertainment for you. If the function is to raise money for a cause that they agree with then their services are for free. For personal functions there is a fee but all the money is given away to afore mentioned groups (even expenses are born by the group)
