| INTRODUCTION TO Deuteronomy: The name "Deuteronomy" comes from the Greek meaning 'second law' . As the fifth book of the Bible, it repeats laws for Israel previouslyt stated in Exodus, Leviticus and Numbers. However, more than just repetition, it deals with various topics in its own distinctive way. In its style, structure and content, Deuteronomy aims at a single harmonious concept: organising the whole life of Israel under the authority of the one, true God, Yahweh. Crucially, this is achieved by means of the category of 'covenant' which features greatly in the life of a people under God. |
